Dear Family, Friends and Supporters of KBF
Every year, I have a Birthday Appeal. Instead of asking for gifts for my birthday, I ask for donations which will go toward KBF’s cause. It’s that time again, as I am about to turn 12! Can you help KBF by donating to my birthday appeal? Here is who we are supporting:
In 2010 (and the rest of the 2009) KBF will be supporting homeless people, especially children, in New York City. We are supporting a group called Feed NYC - a volunteer initiative started by my friends Bob Bronzo and Jim Aquino. Bob and Jim go out almost every weekend and hand out meal packets which they make, and toiletries, socks, clothing, meals, and other essential things homeless people don't have, to homeless people in the parks of the Lower East Side where they live. At the bottom of this email is a piece I wrote after my friend Rebecca (another member of KBF) and I went out with the Feed NYC team a few weeks ago. Also, I have attached a picture of us from that day.
KBF will work throughout 2010 not only handing out meals in all 5 boroughs with Feed NYC, but also focusing on the needs of poor and homeless children in New York City. We’ll keep you updated on our activities through out the year.
The money you are generous enough to donate will fund a collaboration between KBF and Feed NYC. We will go out to areas where there are a lot of homeless people, in each of New York’s boroughs, and hand out meals and essential items.
Challenge Grant: I have another very exciting thing to announce. The wonderful volunteers who go out with Bob and Jim to hand out meals have pooled together to offer me a challenge grant. If I raise $1,000 through my birthday appeal, the Feed NYC Volunteers will collectively match that $1,000.
Please make my birthday the best ever by being as generous as you can. And help me meet the Challenge!
Thanks to you all for being so generous and caring and loving. The world is filled with so much hardship – we can make the world bearable, at least for some. As amazing as our work on Bhopal was, I am truly excited that KBF is going to focus locally for the first time. We will much more activism and volunteering than ever before, and will also work hard to raise funds.
